Two ships have sunk near the Strait of Hormuz as fresh attacks on commercial shipping have hit three containerships linked to Abu Dhabi’s AD Ports Group. The Singapore-flagged GFS Pride, a 2008-built, 2,824 teu feeder operated by Dubai-based Global Feeder Shipping (GFS), was struck by an unidentified projectile on Tuesday, caught fire and subsequently sank.

Security implications
The vessel consequence depends on damage, control and the ability to continue its voyage. Wider access effects become observable through navigation restrictions and operator decisions. An additional independently identified encounter would strengthen a local pattern assessment.
Questions for further review
